Monday, April 23, 2018 – Next Generation of Civic Leaders
Presented by Columbus Inspires and the Create Columbus Commission

To say that the political environment today is in flux would be an understatement. Current events as well as the coming of age of our millennial generation is changing what our society wants from our political leaders. The changes in our communities also begs the question, “Who are the people that will lead our government into the future?” Career politicians, pay-to-play policy creation and systemic inaction have made our political system tentative at best, perhaps even revolutionary. What character qualities will be important to us in our future leaders? What types of backgrounds should our future leaders possess to be relevant and electable? What are the key political and societal platforms that people will rally around as our communities continue to evolve.

Join local civic leaders and political strategists to understand what our evolving communities need in terms of leadership, inspiration, policy and experience.

YP Week Basecamp Day 5: Design Thinking Session
Join us for YP Week Basecamp: Day #5 at the CCAD Mind Market (5 Cleveland Ave. in downtown Columbus) during Columbus YP Week to learn about how major sectors of our city are transforming to accommodate an evolving workforce. This Basecamp event will be facilitated by CCAD Master of Design professors and students. It is FREE to attend and all are welcome.

The final session of the week is an interactive Design Thinking exercise in which we’ll respond personally and creatively to the weeks’ themes. Design Thinking is a collaborative approach to innovation that begins with building a shared cross-disciplinary understanding of the problem and the stakeholders involved. This approach has become popular with business leaders, engineers, marketers, and product designers, in areas as diverse as healthcare, sustainability, education, urban planning, new product and service development, and entertainment.

Participants will work in groups using a variety of materials, as they are guided through a fast-paced series of activities. Participants come away not only with deeper insights about the week’s key lessons, but also with first-hand experience in one of today’s most important innovation methods in business, engineering, and design communities in companies such as Apple, Google, Starbucks, and P&G.

**Because of the nature of this workshop, participants must commit to the entirety of the time allotted. In addition, the number of attendees is limited to 50 people in order to make this session productive.**
